The assessment itself comprises BS 7976-2 Pendulum slip testing, the preferred slip test method of both the HSE and the UK Slip Resistance Group. Tests are conducted in dry and water wet conditions as standard, but contaminants expected in end use can be incorporated (we have tested using mayonnaise, icing sugar, soap, cola, engine oil, even chocolate). Rz surface roughness measurements are conducted alongside Pendulum tests, the values from which provide additional information and can be used to tie areas together where Pendulum testing may not be possible. A full Slips Potential Model risk assessment is conducted to determine the risk of a slip on that particular surface in that particular environment (it is not the case that every surface must achieve 36+PTV in water wet conditions in order to be safe). Our assessment considers all factors affecting slip risk, clearly classifies the surface as compliant or gives unbiased advice on how to improve the surface/environment.
Our quotes cover all expenses, expert independent assessment of slip risk in the agreed number of locations and a full report stating check test values, full results, their implications, advice on reducing risk as appropriate and evidence of calibration as required.
With periodic risk assessments you will build up a record of compliance of your floors, ensuring a robust defence against any slip and fall compensation claims. It is worth considering that the cost of commissioning testing compares very favourably with even a single slip and fall compensation claim.
