"Underlying Causes of Offshore Incidents" report published by the HSE. 22/01/10

The report produced by the Offshore Safety Division and Health and Safety Laboratory aimed to identify underlying causes of incidents and determine trends that emerged.

Findings showed that the most common accidents were caused by:

Slips, trips and falls on the same level

Hit by moving/flying/falling object

Injured while handling/lifting/carrying

Falls from height

Slippery floors are likely to have played a role in both slips and falls on the same level and falls from height. Grip Potential was recently commissioned to conduct slip resistance testing on board an oil rig, showing that some in the industry are keen to tackle the issue of slippery floors head on.
